A checkup and cleaning is a routine visit with two parts. First, your dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite. Then a professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing cannot reach. Most patients benefit from a visit about every six months. Patients with gum disease, a higher risk of cavities or certain medical conditions may need to visit more often.

Before Your Visit

• Bring your dental insurance details, NIHB or CDCP information and a list of any medications you take.
• Tell us about any changes in your health since your last visit.
• Brush and floss as usual before you arrive.
• Let us know if you feel nervous or have sensitive gums. We can adjust our technique or use a desensitizing gel.
• If you have past dental records or X-rays, bring them or tell us where they are.

After Your Treatment

• Your teeth may feel smooth and slightly sensitive for a day. This is normal.
• If you had a fluoride treatment, follow the instructions you are given about eating and drinking afterward.
• Keep brushing twice a day and clean between your teeth daily.
• Book your next recall visit before you leave so you stay on schedule.
• Call us if you notice lasting pain, bleeding gums or swelling.

Recall visits start from $150. Final cost depends on what your exam and cleaning involve, and our team will explain it before treatment begins. We accept most major dental insurance plans, NIHB for eligible patients and CDCP for eligible Canadians. A new patient offer is currently available when you book an exam and cleaning.
